Good Intentions Don’t Always Land Softly

I didn’t mean any harm. I genuinely didn’t. But somewhere between my plans and her reality, something broke quietly, without warning. No argument, no confrontation. Just silence. And silence, I’ve learned, can be louder than anything.

I’ve always believed that as long as your heart is in the right place, things will work out. That intention is everything. But lately, I’m learning a harder truth  that you can show up with the cleanest motives and still leave a mess behind. That caring about someone doesn’t automatically protect them from the weight you unknowingly place on their shoulders.

It’s a strange kind of guilt, this one. The kind that doesn’t come from cruelty or neglect, but from simply not seeing what was right in front of you.

And maybe that’s the lesson. Good intentions are a starting point, not a shield. They don’t excuse us from the responsibility of paying attention really paying attention  to the people around us. To notice when someone is quietly drowning while nodding along.

I’m not a bad person for what happened. But I want to be a more aware one.

Because the goal was never just to mean well.

The goal is to do better.
